For as long as human beings have existed, they have sought to adorn themselves with symbols of status, membership, and beauty. Dating back before recorded history, people have used adornments such as jewelry and permanent markings to enhance their appearances and give societal clues of status. The culture of adornment has played an important symbolic role in every part of the world since then.
Archeologists have found beaded necklaces and beads buried with chiefs and kings in ancient African graves. Many cultures have unique dress, jewelry which have been passed down through generations. Wearing and most important owning and old jewelry or bead is believed to provide wisdom, hope, luck and well-being to its owner.
The culture of adornment is just as prevalent today. They allow the wearer to feel powerful, beautiful. The act of adorning; putting on your favorite item boosts confidence and makes you take on the world. It’s a visual language to communicate who you are.
